Michael Sheen Wants to Play Richard Burton
Movie Celebrity Gossip – Michael Sheen - who has previously portrayed former British Prime Minister Tony Blair in The Deal and The Queen, TV interviewer David Frost in Frost/Nixon and most recently football manager Brian Clough in The Damned United – wants to play actor Richard Burton on the big screen.
Sheen says the person he dreams of playing most is one of Elizabeth Taylor’s many husbands.
He explains, “He had an amazing life coming from a similar background to me, very working class, then ended up being with the most glamorous woman in the world.
“Maybe I will do the Welsh trio – Burton, Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey. That would take people by surprise.”
Sheen, 40, also revealed how he gets mistaken for West Wing star Martin Sheen.
He adds, “I still get called Martin. It could be worse, because I am a huge fan of Martin Sheen.
“One day I did meet him in LA and was introduced to him by someone who said ‘Mr President, the Prime Minister.’ Incredibly he said ‘Oh you’re the reason why I have been getting all these great reviews.’
“He said people have been mistakenly giving him the reviews when they were really about me. It was a very generous thing to say.”
