Brad Pitt Won’t Be Running for Mayor of New Orleans
Celebrity Gossip – Brad Pitt has spoken out to set the record straight on reports he’s running to be mayor of New Orleans. Several Pitt fans who live in the city have been sporting ‘Brad Pitt For Mayor’ tops since June, when a university professor and two brothers who own a t-shirt shop joined forces to launch a quasi-campaign to convince him to run.
Pitt said he’s noticed the shirts but laughed off the idea of running for office. “I don’t have a chance,” he said.
Brad — who isn’t actually eligible to run because candidates must have lived in the city for at least five years — told NBC’s Today show, “I’m running on the gay marriage, no religion, legislation and taxation of marijuana platform.”
The Hollywood star — who raises six children with partner Angelina Jolie — founded the Make It Right organization in 2007 to build houses for low-income residents who lost their homes during Hurricane Katrina.
He and Jolie bought a house in New Orleans in 2007.
But to be eligible, mayoral candidates must be residents of New Orleans for at least five years before the date of the election. The mayoral primary is on February 6, 2010.
